This sculpture presents a pair of wooden lungs, with the left side appearing whole and anatomical, while the right has fish swimming within. The contrast between the two lungs reflects a tension between gratitude and limitation.
The fish represent a longing for escape and people's connections to underwater environments, a place of peace, distance, and clarity. The lungs are both a gift and a boundary: they enable moments of retreat through activities like scuba diving, yet ultimately tether the body to the surface. The work explores the complex relationship between breath, identity, and the desire to belong somewhere else entirely.
